NARIDE Field Activities
Each activity below represents a targeted intervention that NARIDE implements in partnership with communities and funders across Eastern Uganda.
Sustainable Agriculture & Technology Development
To improve household food security and income by promoting sustainable agricultural practices — including improved poultry management, programmed hatching of chicks, livestock development, soil fertility management, soil and water conservation, tree planting, integrated pest and disease management, waste management, and smart cooking — across 10 districts in Eastern Uganda.
Capacity Building in Post-Harvest Handling
To equip rural farmers with knowledge and skills in post-harvest handling through training on the use of locally available resources like cow dung tumplines and silos — reducing post-harvest losses and improving the quality of agricultural produce for better marketing.
Agro-Processing & Cooperative Society Restoration
To promote collective marketing and value addition by restoring cooperative societies in Pallisa, Budaka, Butaleja, Busia, and Tororo — creating food stores, market collection centres, and value-addition sites that employ over 5,000 skilled and unskilled community members.
Household Nutrition Improvement
To address severe malnutrition and anaemia in the Bukedi sub-region by placing over 15,000 mothers at the forefront of identifying and preparing nutritious food for their children — combining homestead gardens, nutrition education, and targeted community outreach.
Community Water Management & WASH Promotion
To improve access to clean and safe water for urban, peri-urban, and rural areas in Mbale City through community-based water management, promotion of Bio-sand filter technologies, construction of water reservoirs in 50 schools in partnership with WaterAid, and advocacy for good governance in water service delivery.
Sanitation Facilities & Hygiene Education
To promote sustainable sanitation and hygiene practices by constructing and maintaining sanitation facilities, promoting handwashing, latrine use, and hygienic menstrual health management — and by training Water User Committees and WASH clubs in schools and communities across Mbale.
Community Health Sensitisation & Empowerment
To increase community health literacy on disease prevention and promote healthy lifestyles through community dialogues, outreach sessions, and partnerships with policy makers and health service providers — covering Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDS, Malaria Control, Nutrition, and both Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases.
SRHR & SGBV Advocacy Programme
To empower women and youth to access Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) services and protection against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) — implemented in Mbale City and District with four-year funding from Amref Health Africa (2022–2025).
HIV/AIDS Prevention & PMTCT Programme
To prevent mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV, support communities in health-seeking behaviours, and prepare communities for a positive response to both communicable and non-communicable diseases in Mbale City — implemented in partnership with TASO Uganda under the UDHA project (2024–2025).
Result-Based Financing for Transparent Health Services
To create transparent and reliable health spaces in Mbale District where clients can assess the quality of health services at facilities — funded by Cordaid Uganda (2023–2025) through a Result-Based Financing model that incentivises quality and accountability in health service delivery.
Peace Building & Conflict Prevention
To promote social cohesion and prevent violent conflict through community mobilisation, education, dialogue, and forum theatre — empowering communities in Eastern Uganda to resolve disputes peacefully and build inclusive environments where everyone's rights are protected.
Child Protection & OVC Support
To protect children's rights and wellbeing — particularly Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs) — through promotion of child rights, participation in decision-making, provision of psychosocial care and support, and addressing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in communities across Mbale District and Busoba sub-county.
Girl Child Education & School Support
To ensure that girl children — both in and out of school — acquire adequate levels of education and training by providing targeted support, rehabilitating educational infrastructure, creating conducive learning environments through school gardening, and promoting WASH in schools across Eastern Uganda.
Parish Development Model (PDM) Community Sensitisation
To sensitise and mobilise communities across 10 districts — Pallisa, Namutumba, Kaliro, Butaleja, Tororo, Mbale, Kibuku, Budaka, Butebo, and Bukedea — to actively participate in and benefit from the Government of Uganda's Parish Development Model (PDM), which has already transformed the lives of over 20,000 people.
